Can Sculptra Be Used Under the Eyes?

Sculptra Aesthetic is often used for several different areas of the face to bring out your inner beauty. It is an injectable that works with the body to increase collagen production. The results can last for years.

Is it just another beauty product?

Other anti-aging treatments only deal with the side effects of age by going after wrinkles, lines, and appearance. Topical collagen creams only cover the skin and do not penetrate below the top layer. These are useful as moisturizers to immediately enhance the appearance of the skin for a short period of time. Fillers, such as the popular Juvederm and Restylane products, will go to work immediately on filling in folds, wrinkles, or lines.

You may find supplements with claims that they can improve collagen production or something to that effect. When the supplement is taken orally, the body breaks down the collagen proteins. With so many other variables, it is difficult to tell if the supplements are actually accomplishing anything. The efficacy of these products remains to be seen. The real results are often unknown to be worth their weight.

A commonly used type of treatment, neuromodulators, include Botox and Dysport. Similar to Sculptra, these are typically injected. The purpose of this neuromodulator is to simply weaken muscles that form lines in wrinkles. These results can last a couple of months.

How is Sculptra Aesthetic Different?

Sculptra Aesthetic is a popular remedy for facial volume loss due to age or illness. It works by stimulating collagen production with the compound “poly-L-lactic acid” (PLLA – not the People’s Liberation Army PLA). This PLLA is injected into the skin and the microparticles are absorbed, helping to build up the collagen. The skin actually becomes more youthful looking and fresh in the areas where PLLA has been injected.

Sculptra is not advertised to be used under the eyes. And several independent doctors state that it is not recommended for use under the eyes. This is because the skin under the eyes is very thin. The possibility for something that can’t be easily fixed is too high. Sculptra Aesthetic is clinically approved for the following areas:

  • Deep folds between the nose and mouth (nasolabial folds), also called “smile lines”
  • Lines framing the mouth (marionette lines)
  • Chin wrinkles

It usually takes a series of three treatment sessions over the course of a few months for best results. You and your medical specialist can determine the right amount of correction and treatment necessary, The results emerge more gradually than other products and can last more than two years.

Barring any complications, you can even apply makeup several hours after your treatment, but be sure to consult your doctor after treatment. If you are unsure if Sculptra Aesthetic is safe, fret not. This product has been used worldwide and approved by the FDA since 1999 in the US. It is made of the same compound (PLLA) as dissolvable stitches. It is absorbed naturally by the body.
