About Restylane

Restylane is a range of products for facial beauty treatment. They are designed to effectively reduce the appearance of unwanted wrinkles, contour and create volume, and to rejuvenate the skin.

Restylane is a gel-based on stabilized hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a substance that naturally exists in your body. The gel is injected into the skin.

A treatment with Restylane provides an easy way to stay in control of your looks. The result of a single treatment can be seen instantly and may last up to one year. With Restylane, you will get a natural-looking result that does not affect facial expressions. Your looks remain under your control.

By replenishing the skin’s supply of hyaluronic acid, Restylane rejuvenates and adds volume to the skin, instantly diminishing the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and giving a natural softer look. The gel is tissue-friendly and closely resembles the hyaluronic acid that exists naturally in the body. It is long-lasting but not permanent.

The most common areas treated are:

  • nose to mouth lines (the nasolabial folds)
  • between the eyebrows (the glabella lines)
  • lips (adding volume and shape)
  • cheeks and chin (shaping and contouring)
  • back of the hands, décolletage, face, neck (skin rejuvenation)

One of the great advantages of Restylane is that the effects are long-lasting but not permanent. Duration depends on many factors, such as the individual’s skin type, lifestyle, and age.

After the initial treatment, follow-up sessions are normally recommended around every 6 to 12 months depending on the individual and the treatment.

Depending on your volume needs, most Restylane treatment appointments last less than an hour and begin to work almost immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions

One of the great advantages of Restylane is that the effects are long-lasting but not permanent. Duration depends on many factors, such as the individual’s skin type, lifestyle, and age.

After the initial treatment, follow-up sessions are normally recommended around every 6 to 12 months depending on the individual and the treatment. A treatment of the lips lasts about 6 months.

Initial Restylane treatments are usually complete in one or two sessions, as needed. Depending on your individual body chemistry, you will work with your specialist to determine a maintenance schedule. Talk to your provider or healthcare professional about your individual needs.

More than 20 million treatments have been performed since the launch of Restylane in 1996. Product related reactions are rare.

There are some injection-related reactions that may occur after injection; they typically resolve spontaneously a few days after injection to the skin, within a week after injection into the lips and within two weeks after injection. These reactions include redness, swelling, pain, itching, bruising or tenderness at the injection site.

After a lip enhancement, your lips may be swollen for up to a week.

In case of more pronounced reactions or if they last longer than a week, contact your practitioner.

As with all skin injection procedures, there is a small risk of infection. Local inflammatory reactions described as mild to moderate and usually self-limiting within 2 weeks have rarely been reported.

After your treatment, you may experience side effects, such as swelling, redness, pain, bruising, headache and itching at the injection site and tenderness. These are typically mild in severity and normally last less than 7 days in nasolabial folds and less than 14-18 days in lips.

Patients should be limited to 6.0 mL per treatment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds.

Swelling may be more likely in patients under 36 years, and bruising may be more likely in patients over 35 years.

Dermal fillers are facial injection treatments used to help diminish wrinkles while restoring volume and fullness in the face. There are several types of dermal fillers, one being hyaluronic acid.

All Restylane products are transparent hyaluronic acids, which are sugars naturally found in the skin that help provide hydration, fullness, and elasticity.
