What Is Xeomin®?

Like Botox, Xeomin is a neuromodulator that stops muscles from contracting. This product is considered “purified” as it is stripped of any accessory proteins and is only the Botulinum Toxin A protein, the active ingredient. Because Xeomin consists of nothing but the toxin and has no additives, it can be beneficial for patients who have had a reaction to Botox. The theory is that we can build antibodies to the accessory proteins but not the active protein, thus leading to resistance.

Xeomin is an FDA-approved treatment used to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults. The effects of Xeomin may spread hours to weeks after injection, causing serious symptoms. Alert your doctor right away as difficulty swallowing, speaking, breathing, eye problems or muscle weakness can be a sign of a life-threatening condition. Side effects may include allergic reactions or injection-site pain, eyelid drooping and swelling.
